A Big Boost

  • 500-backed rocket company Gilmour Space Technologies secured a AUD$5M government grant under Australia’s Industry Growth Program.
  • The funding will accelerate the development of Gilmour’s next-generation liquid rocket engine, a key component of their Eris rocket.
  • Designed to launch satellites, defence tech, and other spacecraft into orbit, Eris is powered by advanced propulsion and fluid systems.
  • On 30 July, the team made history by launching Australia’s first orbital rocket. The Eris rocket achieved 14 seconds of flight — a milestone moment that edges Australia closer to joining the elite group of six nations that regularly launch spacecraft into orbit.
  • “For a maiden test flight, this is a strong result and a major step forward for Australia’s sovereign space capability,” the company shared. “Most importantly, the team is safe and energized for Test Flight 2.”
